Aid for Maui

As you have heard, severe drought and strong winds have spread fires on Maui and on the Big Island of Hawaii, taking 36 lives. We were in contact with the Maui Church of Christ in Wailuku yesterday. The quickest aid we could provide to Maui was funds. We had $10,000 transferred to the Maui church bank account by 7:30 a.m. Hawaii time this morning, so they could help those in need. The Maui church opened their building to be used as a shelter to a family from Texas that was spending their vacation on the island when the fires broke out and burned the hotel they were staying in. We are also aware of other organizations working with the Department of Defense, that can fly in the supplies if requested. We will

Getting supplies to Maui can take 2-3 weeks so we wanted to provide the fastest aid we could. We will continue to monitor the situation and what else they might need. They have no power, and are told it could be 1 to 2 months before they get their power back. The nearest gas station to the Maui church, is 20 miles away, and the provisions families need are also in the same area as the gas station. The biggest issue is people don’t have the fuel to get to the gas station and other provisions, so the preacher has gone to the gas station and brought back 200 gallons of fuel, and is pumping 2 gallons in each vehicle so those families can get to where the provisions are.

Thank you for your support and prayers for those affected by the fires on the Hawaiian Islands.
