On April 10th, a strong storm system moved through parts of Texas, across the state of Louisiana and on into Mississippi and beyond. It dropped large amounts of rain throughout the entire region flooding rivers, creeks , streams and streets. High winds toppled trees, broke limbs, removed carports, and redistributed lawn furniture and other items along its path. The New Orleans area became a prime hot spot for all the storm activity. Slidell Louisiana took the blunt of a EF-1 that impacted that community and 500 to 700 residents. Wide-spread power outages occurred. Vehicles were left stranded in high water in streets and subdivisions. Roofs were peeled off, buildings were literally opened up or imploded while others were left badly damaged or even completely destroyed. The Slidell Church of Christ was one such example. They lost their roof and other parts of the building was heavily damaged. Despite their loss, the eldership saw this as an opportunity to reach out into their community and to be a “light set on a hill” during these dark and difficult times. Because of their willingness, they have agreed to receive from Churches of Christ Disaster Relief a truckload of food, cleaning supplies and other needed items that will arrive and be distributed to those in dire need Friday morning, April 12th. Pray for their outreach efforts in that community as well as for their recovery efforts of their building.
